Mama Guest Curator of the Month: Salihah Moore
We welcome our friend and mama jewelry designer Salihah Moore as our guest curator for the month of January! You may have seen her beautiful work (seed bead jewelry) at Echo Park Craft Fair or even on her mind blowing instagram. Her work is a piece of art and each jewelry piece is hand beaded. We are so excited to have her curate us a collection of her favorite toys. She shares with us her experience as a mother of her two adorable girls.
She answers our favorite question: What is your favorite part about Motherhood and how has it shaped you?
I cherish the moments when I catch our 5 year old in a private world and I see this independent little human wonder. I really love watching her manifest and having those interactions where you're straight chillin with one of your favorite people. Realizing what a gift it is to start from the very beginning with a human and at the same time getting to know them over and over again as they grow. It’s been amazing and so fun to see her become a big sister too. Really enjoying sharing baby time with her.
I always wanted to be a mother, I used to say being a crafty stay-at-home mom was my dream job so In some ways it's been a becoming of what I always wanted to be. But at the same time i'm an artist with a business and so have that push and pull going on. It’s continues to shape me in so many ways!
Thank you Salihah for picking out your favorites from the shop!
This little storybook lamp is pure enchantment. Our daughter has set up a movie room in her closet where she can work the projector and tell the story (different every time) to her dolls and stuffed guys. I love the simple drawings and the wordless images that give space for imaginative participation. And totally worth it just for the fits of giggles when you spontaneously make the movie show up on a tummy or elbow. Makes a great gift for all ages!
This is such a sweet little wooden book that our 8 month old enjoys clapping (since it's wood it claps) and excited to see her grow into the storytelling of the bear cubs in the wild. The paintings are delicate yet vibrant. I love that its a natural material and doesn't have all the bells and whistles other baby books tend to.
Well this guy is just so great for baby time and bath time. The seals natural rubber ball is perfect for teething/everything in the mouth phase and it's cute. check, check and check.
Finally found a tea set that makes you say "yes" every time your little one asks "want to have a tea party?". I love the mismatch of the cups and saucers and the drawings are playful with just the right amount of mad hatter. We've been putting water in it even though its tin and drying it right away, a good lesson in taking appropriate care of your stuff.
This is the rattle to rule all rattles. The beautiful music a baby can effortlessly make with this is sure to soothe the baby & the sleep deprived. It completely avoids the redundant "rattle" of the more traditional types. Maybe a good one to ask the grandparents to chip in for?
This guy is so adorable it's almost too much. Great for bed time rituals cause he can get all cozy in his adorable leaf blanket.
Such great colors! The lid is designed for mixing which is super convenient for taking out in nature/travel and it comes with two brushes for an artist companion.
This thing is great for long car rides or travel. Its magnetic and opens up like a brief case. Fun to follow the cards or create your own weird faces! The wood pieces have a great feel too.
